CAIN & ABEL (GENESIS 4)
The story of Cain & Abel. As much as it is often told as a children’s story, it really is anything but that. One brother murdering another. Yet as we look deeper, we see the problems of the heart, the tragedy sin is causing, and a faithful God who continues to call people to repentance and faith.
TRAGEDY & HOPE (GENESIS 3)
The fall of man is ultimately a matter of whether or not one trusts God. There is so much in our world today that looks good but underneath we soon discover that we’ve been deceived by Satan & his pack of lies. As we see in the text though, we serve an amazing God who seeks us and who also offers us hope. Join us for Genesis 3 today!
FASHIONED BY GOD (GENESIS 2)
Today’s text once more proves how fundamental these opening chapters of Genesis are to many Christian beliefs. Today’s text hits the image of man, genders, and marriage among other things. The word that sticks out to me though is this: “formed”. God formed man. He’s formed you (Ps 139). And that puts us in a unique position with purpose. Join us!
CONNECTEDNESS (COMMUNITY IN THE LOCAL CHURCH) – PART 2
In this two part series, I want to explore the subject of feeling disconnected in the church. It’s a growing problem that research, polls, and simple observation is seeing. What’s the real issue? What ramifications does disconnectedness have? How can it be remedied? Tune in for each part as we answer those questions & more in exploring this issue.
AND ON THE SEVENTH DAY… (GENESIS 2)
We are finishing up the creation week today. Rested. That’s what God did on the seventh day, but it doesn’t mean that he slept. That word though is any important theme carried throughout the rest of Scripture and key when speaking of our salvation.
CONNECTEDNESS (COMMUNITY IN THE LOCAL CHURCH) – PART 1
In this two part series, I want to explore the subject of feeling disconnected in the church. It’s a growing problem that research, polls, and simple observation is seeing. What’s the real issue? What ramifications does disconnectedness have? How can it be remedied? Tune in for each part as we answer those questions & more in exploring this issue.
IN HIS IMAGE FOR HIS GLORY (GENEIS 1)
The book of Genesis is foundational to many key Christian doctrines & theological thoughts. These last few verses of ch. 1 are no exception to that. Trinity, the image & likeness of God, stewardship. We’ll explore all of those briefly today as we draw out the fact that we’ve been uniquely created to glorify him.
FILLING THE AIR & SEA WITH LIFE (GENESIS 1)
What an awesome sight this must have been! I have looked into empty fish tanks, ponds, creek, and birdless skies. God spoke and then there was. Instantly those vast spaces were filled with LIFE! Part of me wonders what the angels said and wishes I could have heard that chorus of praise. We’re talking about the fifth day of creation today. May you stand in awe of God even more!
THE BEAUTY WE SEE FROM NOTHING (GENESIS 1)
Look around you. See the greenery (well if you’re not in a desert or the artic that is)? That is God’s handiwork. The beauty before us was created out of nothing. We’re on day four of the creation story. Again we are brought face to face with the character of God & his creative power. Join us!
GOD’S WISDOM & DESIGN (GENESIS 1)
Look up. See the sky. You you know it’s there, and can see it’s blue. You can’t physically touch it. Yet the atmosphere is part of the wonder of God’s creation. I don’t know that we think about that too much, but on day two, God created the atmosphere. What difference does that make? How does it reflect his sovereignty, wisdom, & creative power? Take a moment to watch.
GOD SAID (GENESIS 1)
We’re on vv. 3-5 today of Genesis 1. What a great set of verses this is and at the same time host to much debate. We’ll discuss that in part today and focus on two words that captured my attention as I read this text. Join us today as we journey through Genesis.
FORMLESS & VOID (GENESIS 1)
The phrase that we read in Genesis 1:2 has led to a host of interpretations, theories, ideas, and conclusion. We’re going to explore them a bit today and talk about what we see in the context. Ultimately we take away though that God has taken something uninhabitable and made it life-supporting and filled it with life which we’ll explore in the coming weeks. As we read v. 2, we might make another spiritual connection. What is it? Watch to find…
THE SIMPLEST EXPLANATION (GENESIS 1)
There is so much packed into the first chapter of Genesis. We’re finishing verse 1 today. How simple the phrase “God created” is & yet so profound. Join us today as we explore why.
IN THE BEGINNING, GOD…(GENESIS)
And we’re back! After a few weeks off, we’re resuming the vlogs again. We’ll be devoting the next several months to studying the book of Genesis. It’s a foundational book to many areas of our lives and key doctrines of the faith. Today we’re looking at just four words: “In the beginning, God…” Short, but profound. Join us!
WHO’S AT THE CENTER?
It makes a vast difference in the course of our lives in who we place at the center of it. And it affects our gospel witness as well. What am I talking about? Perhaps Philippians 2:14-15 will give you a clue. Developing this attitude is of such importance not only relationally, but for our witness as well.
PRACTICAL ATHEISM
I was reading through Psalm 14 and thinking about the subject of atheism as my eyes scanned over the initial words of the psalm. The deeper I got into the psalm and thought about the gospel, my attention turned to how we as believers are promoting that message with our lives to those around us. Is the glorious gospel clearly seen or are we living as practical atheists? Belief is meant to affect how we live and give us gospel…
CREATING SOMETHING NEW (PSALM 51)
I spend time in my garage creating various projects from wood often for my home. I thank the Lord for that skill set that I have attained over the years. What is beyond me though is dealing with the sin problem within me. David acknowledges that in Psalm 51. A heart that is morally degraded needs a solution beyond our power. The word that begins v. 10 with though contains special significance for us in this great psalm.
JUDGEMENT (PSALM 1)
We’ve all heard it said before, “Don’t judge!” Underlying the statement is the concern that mankind unfairly judges others. God does not though. As THE JUDGE of the universe, he is the one who establishes & declares what is right and wrong which the psalmist points out. That’s key for us! Because he does so, he then calls us to a specific manner of living. So judgement is actually helpful in that it guides us. But it also reminds us…
INFLUENCE (PSALM 1)
This past Sunday we talked about understanding the spiritual influence in the background to the circumstances and situations we face. That influence may be either positive or negative. The psalms draws this out as well in Psalm 1 and the slippery slope that the influence of the world can create in our lives as we go along with it.
THE SPIRITUAL BATTLEGROUND
We often think of battle in a physical sense. Wars between nations or people groups. But there is a very real spiritual battle taking place every day, and it is located closer than we think. Understanding the where, may help us to gain greater perspective into the conflict we see around us, noticing the spiritual element.
