Looking Forward to THE DAY

Each week I get a number of emails in my inbox that often have encouraging words, kind of like a short devotional. Today I was particularly encouraged by an email sent to me that reminded me of the words of Paul in Romans 8. It is an encouragement of perspective as we think about what awaits us yet. Oh what a day that will be! CCLI Streaming License # 20229783

Paradise…It’s More Than You Think (GPS #5)

You hear or read reports about mortality rates from time to time. The mortality rate for mankind is 100%. Death is a part of life that many are not comfortable talking about. It is a necessary conversation though particularly because there are only two destinies for us as we die: 1) eternal separation from God or 2) eternal fellowship in the presence of God. There are many misconceptions about heaven. We’re going to right a few of those today and…

Do You See the Grace of God? (Rom 8)

The great hymn of the faith comes to mind today – “Wonderful grace of Jesus, greater than all my sin…” Are you singing the rest of the verse now? But it’s true. God’s grace is wonderful and Romans 8 highlights (and not just the chapter but the whole book) the grace of God for us. How do you see the grace of God as you read through it? Take a moment today to watch and then reflect on the wonderful…

Dual Citizenship (GPS Vlog #2)

Christians have a unique identity. Not only are we citizens of our respective countries of origin (or more generally citizens of earth), but we are also citizens of heaven. I find that when it comes to hot topics as we are discussing in our new sermon series that we tend to side with the earthly rather than heavenly citizenship. Today, we’re diving into this subject of dual citizenship and what it means for us in our interactions with others and…

Vertical Vision (Jas 5)

In James 5, we see both oppression and injustice. As James tells his readers to “be patient” in 5:7, he calls them to a different perspective. And that perspective that he calls them to is meant to impact their everyday life. Thanks for watching as we explore these subjects together! “One Response” (Jas 5:7-12)

What Are the Odds?

What are the odds? Ever used the phrase. Sometimes it is in astonishment at what just happened or we are shrugging off something and don’t even consider it a possibility. Today we’re looking at some statistics that should give us confidence in the faithfulness of God to his Word and strengthen our hope in Christ. Thanks for watching!

FAVORITISM & PREJUDICE (JAMES 2)

The issue of racism is connected to a deeper issue of prejudice which has plagued humanity for thousands of years. Prejudice has not been shown to just one group of people as we commonly think of in our U.S. context. Through the centuries various groups have been show prejudice like the Jews and the Roma people. Amidst all the solutions offered by society, none seems to truly solve the issue. What can be done? What real solutions are there? That’s…

WE KNOW HOW THE STORY ENDS (REVELATION 19-22)

We’ve made it to the end of our New Testament reading and what a great place to end the year in the Bible. We conclude with the glorious future that awaits all those who have placed their faith in Christ Jesus for salvation. Thanks for journeying with us through the New Testament this year. We’ll be starting something new in 2021 as we continue to explore the Word of God together. God bless.

IS THIS FROM LORD OF THE RINGS? (REVELATION 11-12)

As we read these couple of chapters today (Revelation 11-12), it almost seems like it is a scene from the Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit movies. A scene of heaven, a pregnant woman fleeing from a fierce dragon, angels, war….certainly sounds like it doesn’t it? These are end times events though. I’ll explain all these things today. Take a moment to read the chapters though before you watch. Revelation 11-12 NET

AN ETERNAL PERSPECTIVE (PART 1)

None of us appreciates suffering, yet Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 4 that God has a purpose even in the suffering we experience. Paul encourages us to look at our suffering from an eternal perspective to give us focus as we experience it. Take a moment to watch and see the music video “Though You Slay Me” by Shane & Shane. 2 Corinthians 4 NET

WHY THE RESURRECTION IS IMPORTANT (1 COR 15)

When I was younger, I posed the question from time to time: “Is God real?” Even though 1 Corinthians 15 deals with a different subject, the subject itself answers this question, gives hope in this world, and is motivation to us. Take a moment to read 1 Corinthians 15 and then watch. Rejoice that Jesus is ALIVE! 1 Corinthians 15 NET

COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS (LUKE 20)

There are common misconceptions in our day – things that people believe that are not in fact true at all. There are several misconceptions when it comes to the subject of heaven. The Sadducees spoke of some in Luke 20. And while the question revolves around resurrection, our attention should be drawn to who the “worthy” person is. Luke 20 NET

FOLLOWING AFTER JESUS (LUKE 9)

Denying self. It is as important and as hard as that sounds. Yet that is what we are called to as disciples of Christ. In denying self, we are to follow after the will of our master. It is a daily battle (Romans 7). Yet we find our greatest purpose, satisfaction, and fulfillment in him. It is looking to what yet awaits us and seeing all here as temporary. Choose Him. Luke 9 NET

THE ANSWER – GOSPEL

The United States has had several months of turmoil whether from the virus or now the protests and various response to the issues of race and equality. As these days, weeks, and months have gone by, one word keeps occupying my mind – GOSPEL. Where to we find hope in times of fear? Where do we find security in moments of instability? Where do we find real change? The GOSPEL! This is the message we must preach that has changed…
