Responding to Tragedy
In light of the present tragedy near Nashville, I’d like to take some time to revisit a sermon I preached during the summer of 2022 about responding to tragedy. Within it are some key elements to remember and consider as we have our own responses toward this and as we talk with others. What does God think of this? Where is God? What is he doing? What is most important to remember? We’ll look at those questions and more. Thanks…
PD’s Reflections – Conflict – What’s Your Response? – December 7, 2022
Conflict is inevitable in a world full of broken and sinful people. Even the Apostle Paul had conflict with his coworker in the faith, Barnabas. And while we typically choose either a fight or flight response toward conflict, there is a third option. There is a gospel-related way of responding to conflict. Thanks for joining us today as we look at this and the helpful information contained in Ken Sande’s book “The Peacemaker”. “High Taxes & Fake News” – Neh…
WHERE’S THE BEEF? – FORGIVENESS (JAS 2:14-26)
Where’s the beef? It’s from the old Wendy’s commercial. James essentially asks that question as he talks about faith and works. He isn’t speaking about salvation but evidence of our faith in Christ. One of the crucial aspects of this subject regards relationships and within that forgiveness. Forgiveness is evidence of our abiding in Christ and submission to the Spirit’s work in our lives. CREATING SOMETHING NEW (PSALM 51)
I spend time in my garage creating various projects from wood often for my home. I thank the Lord for that skill set that I have attained over the years. What is beyond me though is dealing with the sin problem within me. David acknowledges that in Psalm 51. A heart that is morally degraded needs a solution beyond our power. The word that begins v. 10 with though contains special significance for us in this great psalm.
WHAT HAVE I DONE TO DESERVE THIS? (LUKE 23)
In Luke 23, we find a simple phrase with a powerful message in vv. 15, 22, and 41 – “deserve this”. It points to the guiltlessness of Christ and who bore our guilt and shame and we might have life and hope in Him. Take a moment to watch, pray for someone who hasn’t yet trusted in Jesus as their Savior, perhaps commit to speak with them this week. If you would like to know more about what it means…
PHILEMON WHO?
Philemon? Who’s that? It’s not a book that we normally turn to in the New Testament. In fact there is a lot we don’t know about the situation and the people who are a part of it. Yet there are timeless principles and applications to glean from this short 25 verse letter to Paul’s friend and brother in Christ. It only takes a couple of minutes to read. Then watch this video for nine quick points on the book. Philemon…
GOD IS GOOD – PSALM 103
With everything going on around us, we may question God’s goodness. Yet Psalm 103 reminds us that God is indeed worthy of praise because he is good. David then proceeds through the Psalm to testify to God’s goodness. These words are encouraging reminders for us today.
