In Acts 2, the church begins and Luke states what the early church was doing:
They were devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer…Every day they continued to gather together by common consent in the temple courts, breaking bread from house to house, sharing their food with gland and humble hearts, praising God and having the good will of all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number every day those who were being saved.
Our desire in starting the small group ministry was to get back to these roots once again in an effort to more effectively live out the “one anothers” mentioned in the New Testament very practically. The small groups are a time when a small number of GBC folks meet in each others’ homes, share a meal, study the Scriptures, pray for one another, and share in simple conversation.
Our vision is that the times together would go beyond the regularly scheduled study to literally “doing life together”. We envision these as being mini care-centers for our people–the first to pray for one another, the first to visit each other, the first to help each other out. As we do all of this, relationships develop, we are able to use our spiritual gifts to minister to one another, and we encourage one another to greater and greater spiritual maturity. While not the main goal, small groups are also a non-intimidating setting to invite a friend or neighbor who has been asking questions about the Bible and to work together to answer those questions as well as share the gospel.
There are a number groups that meet at different times and on different days of the week. Contact the church office if you have any questions and for where you might be able to plug in.
