WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO TRUST GOD IN OUR TRIALS?

Rather than a video this week, I’d like to share this article that came to my email inbox this week. It gives us an important perspective that faith is not just something passive but rather active. Take a moment to read these important thoughts on faith.

WHAT IS MORE VALUABLE THAN DIAMONDS? (JAMES 1)

Diamonds are among the world’s most valuable treasures that men seek after. But something is of greater value still. Wisdom. But not just any wisdom, specifically wisdom from God. We’re continuing our study of James 1:5-8 from Sunday looking at the difference between faith, doubt, and unbelief which James brings up in the passage. All of this is key to the overall understanding that calls us to seek the wisdom of God to understand how we can have joy in…

FAITH, DOUBT, UNBELIEF. WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE? (JAMES 1)

Wisdom. That we need. But not just any wisdom, specifically wisdom from God. We’re continuing our study of James 1:5-8 from Sunday looking at the difference between faith, doubt, and unbelief which James brings up in the passage. All of this is key to the overall understanding that calls us to seek the wisdom of God to understand how we can have joy in the midst of trials and their benefit. “Social Media Is Not God nor the Bible” –…

SO THAT WE MIGHT RELY ON GOD (JAMES 1)

We are taking a break in Genesis to focus more intentionally on James as we work through it on Sunday mornings and keep that text fresh in our minds. Set aside some time to watch that video from Sunday. Join us today as we seek to gain some perspective on trials, particularly God’s perspective.

LOOKING AT TRIALS THROUGH GOD’S EYES (JAMES 1)

We are taking a break in Genesis to focus more intentionally on James as we work through it on Sunday mornings and keep that text fresh in our minds. Set aside some time to watch that video from Sunday. Join us today as we seek to gain some perspective on trials, particularly God’s perspective.

A GENUINE AND ANTICIPATORY FAITH (GENESIS 17)

Genesis 17 highlights for us when circumcision came to be in the picture of the nature of Israel. Genesis 17 shows us the renaming of Abram and Sarai. What difference does circumcision make to the life of a believer? What can we draw from this passage that would mean anything for our present context? Join us today and find out.

TRYING TO RUSH GOD’S PLANS (GENESIS 16)

Ever get impatient with God? God has perfect plans on his timing, but we often would like to see the timetable sped up to match ours. When we try to work around God’s plans though, it makes things….well, complicated. It often has consequences as later chapters in Genesis reveal. Let’s keep the focus though for now on what we can learn from Genesis 16.

GOD HAS MORE IN STORE (GENESIS 15)

Now we come to the cutting of the covenant. The promise of a descendent and the land all in one which God tells us is dependent upon him alone. These accounts continue to remind us to trust the Lord and his plan.

LESSONS FROM A WAR (GENESIS 14)

The story of Abram’s faith continues. This time, we learn an important lesson on faith from a war and about the choices we make in our everyday lives. Thanks for joining us today as we explore Genesis 14 together.

FAITH AMIDST CONFLICT (GENESIS 13)

At the end of chapter 12, Abram not only is dealing with the famine in the land of Canaan but also a famine of faith in his own life. As we come to chapter 13, we see the ebbs and flows of our walk with the Lord. The one who just acted in self-will know shows a wonderful display of his faith in God amidst a family conflict. When tempted to go after what would appeal to anyone’s mind and…

A FAMINE OF FAITH (GENESIS 12)

In the last half of Genesis 12, Abram encounters a famine in the land. As a result, he moved to Egypt to escape this severe time for his family & fortune. While there was a famine in the land, you might also say that there was a famine of faith in Abram’s life. What do I mean and what can we learn from this time in Abram’s life? Join us today!

ABRAHAM’S BLESSING & THE WORD OF FAITH MOVEMENT (GENESIS 12)

Interestingly as I was initially studying this passage last week, I came across a bit of information that I had not known before. The Word of Faith Movement holds that the promises of Genesis 12 can be claimed for people today. We’re going to explore that and give some background to this movement in today’s vlog. Thanks for watching!

TRUST & OBEY (GENESIS 12)

This is part 1 of two sessions we’ll do on Genesis 12. In this first session, look at the chapter and note that two elements always go hand in hand together. These two elements are the subject of a great hymn of the faith. They are the key to living godly lives. They are what we are encouraged to here. Trust and obedience. They cannot be separated from one another. What is God calling you to trust him in? How…

A TOWERING PROBLEM (GENESIS 10-11)

Sandwiched between two genealogies is the story of the Tower of Babel in chapter 11. What is often a children’s story has important application for us today reminding us that God is still in control of this world and sovereign over it. In the chapter, we see the sin that continues to plague mankind and are forced to ask of ourselves a very important question. Thanks for watching.

CURSE ON CANAAN (GENSIS 9)

The last half of Genesis 9 is an interesting and perplexing chapter. Thanks for watching today as we uncover its difficulties and look at the greater truth it points us toward.

GENESIS 9 IN ONE WORD

As I have been looking at this chapter over the last couple of days off and on, there is one word that continually comes to mind. This one word could sum up the first part of chapter 9 as God gives various commands and we see the focal point of the text. What is it? Thanks for watching!

SALVATION IN THE STORM (GENESIS 7-8)

As I was reading Genesis 7-8 today, I noted some things I hadn’t before. We often hear this simply as a children’s story, yet this was an actual account with far deeper spiritual meaning that just a boat floating on the water to save some animals. Today, we look through the timeline of that event as well as the greater significance that it points us to today. Thanks for watching!

ONLY ONE RIGHTEOUS MAN (GENESIS 6)

With all the evil that we see in our day, both nationally and around the world, we can still find righteous people. Those who stand for truth and for God. Yet we think that our day is very evil. Genesis 6 shows us a day when there was only one righteous person upon the earth. What a shocker that would be! This chapter shows us the totality of evil in the world at the time and why indeed God brought…

SONS OF GOD & THE NEPHILIM (GENESIS 6)

The sons of God. The Nephilim. Genesis 6 has sparked the curiosity of more than one person as they seek to understand who these two groups of people are. I think though that in the midst of curiosity and pressing to find an answer that you’ll find that many people skip over the greater message God is trying to get across–the totality of man’s sinfulness and evil. These are the front steps into the story of God’s judgement through the…

LINE OF OLD MEN (GENESIS 6)

Be honest. You probably skip over chapter 5 as you read through Genesis. We often see the lineages as unimportant. It’s just a line of old men who died and record of their sons. That may be what we think, but if we look a bit deeper and consider the context it is in, there is more to be learned from it. Genesis 5 isn’t just about a line of old me. It’s about God’s faithfulness, about hope, about man’s…
