“Hi, how are you?” The typical Sunday morning greeting or really a typical everyday American greeting. And this is usually followed by, “I’m good.” “I’m fine.” “I’m doing well.” “Thanks for asking. How are you?” And this is followed usually by the same answers. Are we really though? Are we really doing good? Are we really fine? Are we really well? The truth is that we often keep our brokenness, our hardships, our tears and fears bottled up and hidden whether of fear of what others might think of us or a matter of pride. Whichever, often people are not truly honest with one another. And yet that is what we are called to isn’t it? As we are honest about what’s going on and where we’re at, it opens the doors for God and the church to minister in amazing ways. Sadly, I’ll admit that the fears of opening up are sometimes founded because others do use it as an opportunity to ridicule and belittle. Let the church BE the church, a place, a body whose hallmark trait is love and who shows the grace of God.
